Il chitarrista David Taylor Chastain e il bassista Mike Skimmerhorn lasciano nel 1984 gli Spike, una band del Midwest, e formano due nuovi gruppi, i più melodici CJSS e i più heavy Chastain.
Mike Varney scrittura questi ultimi per la sua label, la Shrapnel; la coppia si unisce al batterista Fred Coury e alla cantante Leather Leone, ex Tude Girl.
Nel gennaio del 1985 questa band incide l’album MYSTERY OF ILLUSION, il più completo in assoluto dei Chastain, nel quale brani veloci si alternano a ballate heavy.
Sebbene David consideri suo vero gruppo i CJSS, con i quali spera di ottenere successo, mentre i Chastain sono solo la valvola di sfogo per le sue canzoni più heavy, insieme a questi ultimi registra decisamente di più.
Dopo la sostituzione del batterista Fred Coury con Ken Mary, i Chastain pubblicano altri tre album, RULER OF THE WASTELAND, THE 7TH OF NEVER e THE VOICE OF THE CULT, molto simili tra loro per stile e livello qualitativo.
La varietà compositiva soffre però dei ritmi di lavoro troppo serrati del nostro guitar-hero. Per questa ragione, David Chastain, sul finire del 1988, annuncia che i Chastain avranno in futuro la priorità assoluta.
Comunque David collabora al debutto come solista di Leather Leone. Il quinto album del gruppo FOR THOSE WHO DARE esce nella primavera del 1990, dopo una pausa lunga più di un anno.
In questo album vi è un cambio di formazione: il nuovo virtuoso bassista David Harbour sostituisce Mike Skimmerhorn e il batterista John Luke Hebert sostituisce Ken Mary, che è andato a suonare con Alice Cooper.
Dopo alcuni anni di pausa, nei quali David T. Chastain ha dedicato il suo tempo ad alcuni progetti solisti, nel 1995 esce SICK SOCIETY e nel 1997 IN DEMENTIA, registrati con una nuova formazione: Kate French alla voce, Kevin Kekes al basso e l'ex membro dei Trouble, Dennis Lesh alla batteria.
Nel 2004 esce IN AN OUTRAGE, e la line-up per questo album, oltre a David T. Chastain e la cantante Kate French, comprende Larry Howe alla batteria e Dave Starr al basso (entrambi ex Vicious Rumors).

The guitarist David Taylor Chastain and the bassist Mike Skimmerhorn in 1984 leave the Spike, a band from the Midwest, and form two new groups, the most melodic CJSS and the heavier Chastain.
Mike Varney engasge them for his label, the Shrapnel; the pair joins the drummer Fred Coury and singer Leather Leone, ex member of Tude Girl.
In January of 1985, this band recorded the album MYSTERY OF ILLUSION, the most complete of Chastain, in which fast tracks alternate with heavy ballads.
Although David considers his real group CJSS, with which it hopes to achieve success, while Chastain are only the relief valve for its heavier songs, along with these last he recorded significantly more.
After replacing drummer Fred Coury with Ken Mary, the Chastain publish three more albums, RULER OF THE WASTELAND, THE 7TH OF NEVER and THE VOICE OF THE CULT , very similar in style and quality.
The compositional variety suffers, however, the pace of work too tightened our guitar-hero. For this reason, David Chastain, at the end of 1988, announces that the Chastain in the future will have the priority.
However David collaborates to debut as a soloist of Leather Leone. The fifth album of the FOR THOSE WHO DARE comes out in the spring of 1990, after a long pause over a year.
In this album there is a change of line-up: the new virtuos bassist David Harbour replacing Mike Skimmerhorn and drummer John Luke Hebert replacing Ken Mary, who went on to play with Alice Cooper.
After a few years off, in which David T. Chastain has devoted his time to some solo projects, in 1995 out SICK SOCIETY and 1997 IN DEMENTIA, registered with a new line-up: Kate French on vocal, Kevin Kekes on bass and former member of Trouble, Dennis Lesh on drums.
In 2004 comes out IN AN OUTRAGE , and the line-up for this album, as well as David T. Chastain and the singer Kate French , includes Larry Howe on drums and Dave Starr on bass (both ex members of Vicious Rumors).
